Description
Hand Pump Assembly for Quick Test Sub
Technical Description
The Hand Pump Assembly is a portable, high-pressure hydraulic unit designed specifically to energize the Quick Test Sub (QTS). Because the QTS only requires a very small volume of fluid to test the annular space between its seals, a manual hand pump is the most efficient and precise method for verifying the integrity of a Quick Union connection without needing to power up the main hydraulic skid.
Key Technical Specifications and Operation
Function: To provide the hydraulic pressure necessary to perform a localized “dry” or “wet” pressure test on Quick Union connections. It allows the operator to verify that the primary O-rings are sealing correctly before opening the wellhead valves.
Dual-Stage Design: Many models feature a two-stage piston. The first stage delivers a high volume of fluid at low pressure to quickly fill the QTS cavity, while the second stage provides the high-pressure “squeeze” needed to reach test pressures up to 15,000 psi.
Precision Control: Equipped with a fine-increment needle valve for controlled pressure release and a high-accuracy, glycerin-filled pressure gauge to monitor for any “bleed-off” during the test period.
Fluid Compatibility: The internal seals and reservoir are typically compatible with water, water-glycol mixes, or light hydraulic oils, depending on the environmental requirements and the type of seals in the PCE stack.
Portability: Housed in a compact, rugged frame or carrying case, making it easy to transport to the top of the lubricator stand or work platform.
Customization and Materials
High-Pressure Hose: Supplied with a “thermoplastic” or “super-jacked” high-pressure hose (typically 10ft to 20ft) with a safety factor of 4:1.
Gauge Options: Gauges can be customized with specific scales (PSI, BAR, or MPa) and can be supplied with calibration certificates for safety compliance.
Corrosion Resistance: The pump body is often made of anodized aluminum or stainless steel to withstand the corrosive salt-air environments common in offshore slickline operations.
