Description
Hose For Quick Test Sub
Technical Description
The Quick Test Sub (QTS) Hose is a specialized, ultra-high-pressure flexible line that connects the manual hand pump to the test port of the Quick Test Sub. Unlike standard hydraulic hoses, QTS hoses are designed with a very low volumetric expansion rate to ensure that pressure readings on the gauge are instantaneous and accurate during localized seal testing.
Key Technical Specifications and Operation
Construction: Typically constructed with a Thermoplastic or Polymer core, reinforced with multiple layers of high-tensile Spiral Steel Wire. The outer cover is usually made of abrasion-resistant Polyurethane, often in high-visibility colors for safety.
Safety Factor: To comply with oilfield safety standards, these hoses generally maintain a 4:1 Safety Factor (e.g., a hose rated for 15,000 psi working pressure will have a minimum burst pressure of 60,000 psi).
Small Bore Design: Most QTS hoses have a very small internal diameter (typically 1/8″ or 1/4″). This “micro-bore” design minimizes the amount of fluid required to reach test pressure, making it easier for the operator to pump by hand.
End Fittings: Equipped with high-pressure “Autoclave” (Medium Pressure/High Pressure) or JIC/NPT stainless steel fittings. These often include swivel joints to prevent kinking during the makeup of the PCE stack.
Strain Relief: High-quality assemblies include “bend restrictors” or spring guards at both ends to prevent the hose from crimping at the connection points, which is a common failure point.
Customization and Materials
Length: Standard lengths are 10ft, 15ft, or 20ft, but custom lengths are available for tall lubricator setups.
Testing & Certification: Each hose is typically hydro-tested to 1.5x working pressure and issued a unique serial number and test certificate for the equipment register.
Chemical Compatibility: The internal liner is designed to be compatible with a wide range of test fluids, including water, glycols, and hydraulic oils.
