Description
PCE Transport Skid
Technical Description and Specifications
The PCE Transport Skid is a heavy-duty, structural steel frame designed for the organized storage, safe transport, and rapid deployment of a complete Slickline Pressure Control Equipment (PCE) stack. Given the length and weight of lubricators and the sensitivity of hydraulic components, the skid provides a secure “home” for the equipment, protecting it from damage during transit over rough terrain or offshore logistics.
Key Technical Specifications and Operation
Integrated Storage: Custom-engineered cradles and “V-blocks” house lubricator sections, the stuffing box, BOPs, and tool catchers. This ensures that every component is accounted for and prevents metal-to-metal impact during movement.
Protection of Critical Parts: The skid is designed to keep Quick Union threads and seal faces elevated and protected. It often includes dedicated bins for “O” rings, hand pumps, and hoses.
Lifting and Logistics: Equipped with certified four-point lifting lugs and forklift pockets. Most offshore models are built into a “DNV 2.7-1” or “ISO 10855” certified crash frame to withstand the impact loads of ship-to-platform transfers.
Spill Containment: Many modern skids feature a “bunded” or “drip tray” floor to capture any residual wellbore fluids or hydraulic oil that may leak from the equipment after a job, ensuring environmental compliance.
Hydraulic Hose Management: Often includes integrated reels or “hangers” for the hydraulic umbilical and grease lines, keeping them free of kinks and away from heavy equipment.
Customization and Materials
Material: High-grade structural carbon steel, typically hot-dip galvanized or coated with high-durability epoxy paint for maximum salt-spray resistance.
Cradles: Lined with wood, rubber, or high-density polyethylene (HDPE) to prevent scratching or “nicking” of the lubricator bodies.
Securing Systems: Features heavy-duty ratchet straps or mechanical toggle clamps to lock the equipment in place during high-vibration transport.
