Technical Description

The Perforation Interconnector Sub is a specialized coupling component used to join two perforating gun carriers in a single string. Its primary role is to ensure both mechanical rigidity and the successful transfer of the detonation sequence from one gun to the next.

• Detonation Transfer (Booster-to-Booster): The core of the sub is designed to facilitate “ballistic transfer.” It houses the booster charges that allow the detonation wave to travel from the detonating cord of the upper gun to the detonating cord of the lower gun without interruption.

• Electrical Feed-Thru: In selective firing systems, the Interconnector Sub contains a pressure-sealed electrical conductor. This allows the firing signal to pass through “spent” or unfired guns to reach specific addressable switches or detonators further down the string.

• Structural Integrity: Engineered to be the strongest point in the gun string, it is manufactured from heat-treated alloy steel. This ensures the string can withstand the cumulative shock of multiple charges and the tensile stress of long tool strings, even in 25,000 psi environments.

• Pressure Isolation: It features high-performance, redundant O-ring seals to prevent wellbore fluid from entering the gun carriers. This is critical because any fluid ingress will dampen the detonation wave and cause a misfire.

• Size Versatility: These subs are matched to the carrier outer diameter, ranging from slimline $1-1/4″ units to heavy-duty 7″ versions.
