The JUC Pulling Tool is a slickline intervention device classified as a Jar-Up-to-Collect selective pulling tool. It is specifically designed to engage, unlock, and retrieve downhole flow control devices (e.g., plugs, safety valves, sleeve shifting tools) that utilize a standardized internal fishing neck profile where an upward jarring impact is required for initial collection or unlocking.

Key Technical Specifications and Operation

• Function: To retrieve subsurface control devices by engaging the fish neck and releasing the tool string’s core only after a controlled upward impact has unlocked the downhole device or sheared the retention mechanism.

• Design: A multi-component assembly featuring a spring-loaded core and external pulling dogs or fingers. The core is held in a lower position relative to the body by shear pins.

• Mechanism (Controlled Release): The tool is run downhole over the target fish neck.

  1. Engagement: The dogs engage the target fish neck profile.

  2. Collection/Unlocking: An upward jarring action shears the pins, causing the internal core to move up relative to the body. This movement pulls the dogs inward, locking the tool onto the fish neck and simultaneously unlocking the downhole device.

  3. Retrieval: The JUC is retrieved locked to the fish, transmitting the full tensile load to the surface wire.

• Shear Pin Rating: Utilizes precisely sized and rated shear pins to control the required upward impact load, ensuring controlled tool action and preventing premature release or component damage.
