eFISH

The eFISH Electro-Mechanical Fishing Tool delivers up to 6 tons (12,000 lbs) of controlled pulling or pushing force on slickline or electric line—without explosives, hydraulics, or a coiled tubing unit. Powered by a self-contained battery module, it anchors securely to the tubing/casing ID to retrieve stuck chokes, bridge plugs, and downhole debris. With intelligent push/pull switching, redundant safety releases, and modular construction for rapid redressing, eFISH turns complex fishing jobs into cost-effective slickline operations.

eFISH Electro-Mechanical Fishing Tool

Overview

The eFISH Electro-Mechanical Fishing Tool is a self-contained, battery-powered downhole solution designed to retrieve fish (such as chokes, plugs, or debris) from tubing or casing. Deployable via slickline or electric line (E-line) , the eFISH tool eliminates the need for costly coiled tubing units or complex hydraulic fishing assemblies.

Once anchored securely to the inner wall of the completion, the tool utilizes its internal battery, motor, and gearbox modules to generate a precise, controllable pulling or pushing force ranging from 1 to 9 tons. This allows operators to engage an overshot and retrieve the fish with confidence. By replacing impact jars and hydraulic tension with electro-mechanical precision, eFISH solves the common problems of insufficient pull force and uncontrollable tool strings associated with traditional slickline fishing.

Key Features & Benefits

1. High-Force Output in a Compact Slickline Tool

  • Feature: The 2.0-inch tool size generates up to 15 tons (30,000 lbs) of force for both pulling up and pushing down.

  • Benefit: This force rivals that of light coiled tubing units but is delivered via cost-effective slickline operations. It provides sufficient overpull to retrieve stuck chokes, bridge plugs, and other downhole obstructions that conventional slickline fishing cannot overcome.

2. True Two-Way Electro-Mechanical Control

  • Feature: Intelligent power output control allows the tool to switch between push and pull modes based on pre-set parameters or real-time commands.

  • Benefit: Operators are no longer limited to one-directional jarring. The eFISH tool can apply steady, sustained tension upward or downward force to work the fish free, dramatically increasing the success rate in complex retrievals.

3. Safe, Hydraulic Anchoring with Redundancy

  • Feature: Utilizes hydraulic slip design to anchor firmly to the tubing/casing ID. The system includes a “three-way releasing” mechanism and two engineered weaknesses to ensure tool safety.

  • Benefit: In the unlikely event of a malfunction, the tool offers multiple release options (mechanical, electrical, or over-pull), ensuring the fishing string itself does not become a fish. This layered safety net eliminates the fear of uncontrollable tools.

4. Non-Explosive, Self-Powered Operation

  • Feature: Powered solely by internal batteries; no explosives, no hydraulic pumps, and no continuous wireline power supply required.

  • Benefit: Simplifies rig site logistics and HSE compliance. There are no explosives to transport or hydraulic lines to leak, making the operation cleaner, safer, and free from regulatory red tape.

5. Minimized Tubing Damage

  • Feature: Unique anchoring slip design engineered for two-way anchoring with a focus on even load distribution.

  • Benefit: While providing a secure grip on the completion, the slip geometry is designed to minimize scoring or damage to the tubing/casing inner wall, preserving well integrity.

6. Modular, Readily Available Architecture

  • Feature: Shares common battery, motor, and gearbox modules with the ePOWER and ePunch platforms (domestic stock).

  • Benefit: In emergency well service situations, modules can be quickly swapped out and the tool can be re-dressed and run back in hole with minimal downtime. This modularity reduces spare parts inventory and maintenance complexity.

Applications

  • Choke Retrieval: Specifically designed to pull stuck chokes from wireline-retrievable choke mandrels.

  • Plug Pulling: Retrieving bridge plugs, memory gauges, or other obstructions that are stuck in the completion.

  • General Salvage Operations: A cost-effective alternative to coiled tubing or tubing-conveyed fishing for retrieving junk or debris.

  • Wellhead Isolation Valve Retrieval: Removing isolation sleeves or valves requiring significant upward force.
